For people concerned with actual fidelity and resolution, you'd be much better off with entry level 4 or 5 inch powered studio monitors. The speaker wires were also those cheap 1mm black / red wires - I would have expected something slightly better for this level of speaker. I would say "pretty" good, as the soundstage wasn't as bright as I would have expected, given the size of the drivers. Now - when actually on, the speakers were actually pretty good.

I expect that this is a build flaw, but for the price, not something I was going to put up with.Īlso - given there is no way to power down the system from the control (besides from unplugging from the wall), it was unacceptable. (no, not interference - tried with computer off / router off / different rooms.same deal). When on standby, the speakers issued a very low sounding 'ticking' sound (every 3 seconds or so), and the subwoofer exhibited a medium-frequency humming noise. Two may be a curse, but they both did the same thing so I would be wary. I'm thinking about taking what I've learned from this ProMedia system and applying to improve the KR-720 I just got functional after recap and upgrading while at it to improve performance.Purchased these this week, and had them replaced with another set - which exhibited the same flaw. These are neat systems to study electronics and RF engineering with. I also had to repair the 1/8" audio plug on another satellite POD where I just cut and replaced the 1/8" plug after testing the continuity of the cable to the POD PCB. I repaired one of the systems satellites POD DIN plug with a PS/2 keyboard plug spliced in and wrapped once I verified the wires.

trying to use salvaged components from the free TV's, VCR's and items I found on Craigslist, Offerup and/or Letgo and other places over the years when I can.

I'll upgrade both systems while I'm at it. once I get to testing the components, of the fuse blows upon switching the power on scenerio system, out of circuit. I did just receive a newer version backplate with claimed working circuits and subwoofer speaker from an offer accepted on eBay to use the subwoofer and maybe components. though might be one of the MOSFET's as I read this is what causes the fuse to blow in the new version. The other subwoofer I have that is the old model keeps blowing a fuse and I notice the subwoofer is measuring 680 ohms instead of 6 ohms. He is on eBay and he sells the upgrade kit: Stpeteshepherd has been helpful and is very knowledgeable regarding details of these and I assume other systems.

I need to swap the capacitors next on the LF board and place a fan in. I've seen on Youtube where someone soldered more solder on the traces coming from the resistors and going to the TL074CN IC. I did have to resolder the two resistors I noted above since I found those completely off the PCB. I checked all the transistors out of circuit with a cheap LCR-T4 meter as well as some diodes and all looked OK. Reads like the capacitors go bad on the LF board relating to this issue if everything else is conducting and tests OK out of circuit that needs to be.

The zip tie burnt off came from the inductor coil I think.

The burnt area is common from the two 1W or later old version update to 2W 1000 ohm resistors and two MOSFETS. with more efforts on the low volume subwoofer older version (large transformer) and the fuse blows upon switching the power on. I've been working on the two versions, I acquired at the Goodwill or on, scenario studies a little. I'll have to look a lot closer.Īdding some more photos that might help.Ĭlick to expand.Did you start working on this and repair? All fuses look good.ĭid a quick review and noticed that I also had scorched and broken zip ties.

Also tested driver in another system and it works fine so unfortunately it seems to be a problem with the amp. If it's the amp I have no clue where to start. If do that would be a cheap and easy fix. I'll add some photos later and I'll also hook the driver up to another sound system to see if it's just the driver. Granted I'm not an electrical engineer do don't really know what to look for besides blown capacitors or fuses. I took it apart this morning but didn't see anything obviously blown. I can have the sub control at any volume level but nothing is being outputted. The left and right channels work perfectly. I have an original (well older version) Klipsch ProMedia 2.1.
